HMAS ROCKHAMPTON was one of sixty Australian Minesweepers (commonly known as corvettes) built during World War II in Australian shipyards as part of the Commonwealth Government’s wartime shipbuilding programme.
Located near the Dreamtime Cultural Centre, this recreated historical township not only has many things to observe, you can participate in many activities ranging from milking cows, taking a ride in olden day cars and singing in a church. You can join a tour or just do your own thing. To give the place a more authentic feel, you often come across friendly townsfolk dressed in full period costume. The Heritage Village also provides an excellent opportunity to learn the how things were done "back then", which makes it an ideal history excursion for students.
